2017 Retreat

The Retreat is supported by The Misses Barrie Trust

Jointly led by violinist Alexander Janiczek and ENF director Svend Brown, The Retreat is an exciting development for the Festival that both enriches the core programme and enables it to ‘give something back’ to chamber music by investing in outstanding young talents.

The Retreat seeks to encourage, support and inspire exceptional young musicians who are already demonstrating a gift for chamber music by offering a matchless opportunity to spend time with outstanding world-class players, to learn both specific repertoire and also more general aspects of musical wisdom that will influence their work for years to come.

In 2015 & 2016, groups of incredible young musicians spent intense weeks together playing music, learning and rehearsing. By coming to the peaceful and quiet East Neuk of Fife, they were freed to give themselves over to a transformational and concentrated musical experience, which was celebrated and shared in at two special hour-long Retreat Concerts as part of the East Neuk Festival programme.

The 2017 Retreat will run from 23 June to 1 July, and will showcase the participating musicians in two public concerts in the second week.

Retreat Concert 1

Wednesday 28th June 4.30pm, Elie Church Hall
An informal concert to hear the discoveries of the musicians’ first few days of intensive musical exploration.
