The Eroica Quartet are experts in the performance practice of the Romantic Age. They have dug deep to discover ways of playing that Mendelssohn and Beethoven would have taken for granted, then tried to apply their discoveries and learn anew how to play their music. Their three concerts of Beethoven and Mendelssohn at East Neuk Festival offer unusual interest because Mendelssohn modeled each of the three quartets we hear on a specific Beethoven work.
