Dr Richard Holloway has appeared at every East Neuk Festival, and we are delighted to welcome him back. This project arose from the discovery that he has a passion (which I share) for the work of Virginia Woolf. The way she uses words and ideas seem innately musical to me. In this performance, Dr Holloway will read some of the most poetic and impressionistic of all her writings, a set of seascapes form her novel The Waves which capture moments of a single day. Conveying the passage of time between these moments, Llyr Williams has programmed a selection of Debussy's preludes. Debussy was certainly not aware of Wolf - he died before she made her name. But their shared love of the sea, their imagery and mastery of their art makes them a natural pairing here.
