Sérgio Pires

Sérgio Fernandes Pires began his musical studies at the age of 8, and from 2007-13, went to the Academia de Música Valentim Moreira de Sá in Guimarães, Portugal, to study with Vitor Matos. He is currently finishing his Master Diplom with François Benda at the Hochschule für Musik der Stadt in Basel.

Sérgio has won 1st Prize in many competitions including Gheorghe Dima International Clarinet Competition in 2017 and Concorso Internazionale Marco Fiorindo in 2012.

Sérgio has performed at music festivals including Musikfestwoche Meiringen, European Music Campus, Kultursommer Nordhessen, BBC Proms, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Isang-Yun Festival and Festival Bozen. He has shared a stage with prestigious soloists such as Vilde Frang, Mischa Maisky, Fazil Say, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Maxim Vengerov, Jan Lisiecki, Clemens Hagen, Martin Grubinger, Michaela Kaune, Christoph Eschenbach, Daniel Stabrawa, Maté Szucs, Klaus Florian Vogt, Lang-Lang and René Pape.

As a soloist, Sérgio has played with Kammerorchester Basel, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Orchester vom See, Orchestra Filarmonicii de Stat Transilvania, and Argovia Philarmonic.

Since 2016, he has been solo clarinet in the Musikkollegium Winterthur Orchester, winning the audition at the age of 20 years old. Since 2015, he has been a SELMER Artist and Silverstein Artist.
