Christian Zacharias is one of the world’s most celebrated pianists and is also a conductor, festival director, musical thinker, writer, and broadcaster. He first made his name as a pianist and he continues to appear in concerto and recital performances worldwide, performing with the world’s leading conductors. He also conducts the most renowned orchestras.

In the 2017/18 season, Zacharias takes over as first guest conductor of the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid for the next 3 seasons. Until 2013 he was director and principal conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, with which he made many critically acclaimed and international prize-winning recordings.

Zacharias was a long-term “Artistic Partner” of the St Paul Chamber Orchestra since the 2009/10 season. He also maintains close ties with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, with whom he was Principal Guest Conductor for many years, and enjoys long-term relationships with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hallé Orchestra Manchester and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Zacharias’ work in the world of music has earned him numerous awards and prizes, including the 2007 Midem Classical Award “Artist of the Year”. The French government also honoured him as an “Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” and he was awarded for his contributions to culture in Romania in 2009. In 2016, he was named member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
